What are we Tracking and Why
What we are tracking and why
Net zero by 2050 is an ambitious target that requires every sector to interrogate its activity and contribute to a systems wide approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Tracking our CO2e footprint is also a tangible inroad to uncovering insights into the broader impacts our business has on resources, people and planet.
At our current scale, we expect our day to day operational emissions to be a drop in the ocean, but every drop counts, and our intention is to scale up and become effective contributors to change, so building understanding and integrating robust processes from the ground up just makes sense.
Like everyone in the food and drink sector, from the mighty supermarkets to..well..us, the biggest percentage of GHG emissions come mainly from upstream in the supply chain. How our food is grown, processed and transported is a very complex picture, currently with few globally joined up systems for data collection and monitoring when it comes to GHG production and environmental stewardship.
With regard to our produce, we are starting with what we know - what we buy, its country of origin, and how it was transported. It’s going to take time and research to dig deeper into the realities and challenges of our upstream suppliers and stakeholders, but we’re committed to that journey and will definitely share the results as our understanding grows.
